A Shopaholic Speaks...

“I love shopping. There is a little bit of magic found in buying something new. It is instant gratification, a quick fix.”
-Rebecca Bloom, Girl Anatomy: A Novel

Shopping is an activity I enjoy; be it window shopping or actual shopping at  brick and mortar stores. Online shopping doesn't really interest me because I need to touch and feel my potential purchase beforehand. A day at the mall is sure to give me a high! And by shopping, I do not mean shopping for clothes alone, but any kind of shopping- right from buying books to furniture. Yet I don't deny that it is shopping for clothes and accessories that I love the most.

When I step into a garment store, I am wooed by the various mannequins that flaunt their clothes- whether trendy or traditional. The lure of owning a shiny, new pair of shoes is something I can hardly resist; especially when there is a sale or when I have a gift voucher in hand. Handbags in every shape and size entice me so much that I simply have to buy one!

Moving to the topic of books, I just love the smell of a new book. Curling up with an interesting book and a cup of coffee during the monsoons- Ah bliss! I enjoy browsing for books and end up staying for hours on end at bookstores.
Buying knick knacks for my home is quite exciting as is  furniture shopping.

Window shopping is something I savour- browsing the stores for new arrivals makes me feel good, stay updated with the latest trends and also serves as a form of exercise.

Shopping burns calories and is therapeutic too.

If one can control the urge to purchase unnecessary items and shop wisely, shopping can prove to be a useful and enriching activity. What more does a shopaholic need?

Here are a few of my favourite quotes on shopping:

"I've no idea when I'm going to wear it," the girl replied calmly. "I only knew that I had to have it. Once I tried it on, well...," she shrugged. "The dress claimed me."
-Isabel Wolff, A Vintage Affair

“When I shop, the world gets better, and the world is better, but then it's not, and I need to do it again. (Confessions of a Shopaholic-the movie)”

-Sophie Kinsella

"Whoever said money can't buy happiness simply didn't know where to go shopping."
 -Bo Derek

"The odds of going to the store for a loaf of bread and coming out with only a loaf of bread are three billion to one."

-Erma Bombeck

"I've been shopping all my life and still have nothing to wear."
-Author Unknown

"If the shoe fits, buy it in every color!"

 -Author Unknown

“When I opened my case in the hotel, he gestured excitedly at my snakeskin sandals, turquoise suede wedges and silver-speckled jellies. “But you’ve loads of shoes,” he bellowed joyfully. I shook my head sadly. Men just don’t get it, do they? They’re definitely missing the shoe chromosome.”
-Marian Keyes, Under the Duvet: Shoes, Reviews, Having the Blues, Builders, Babies, Families and Other Calamities

Thank you. :) Well I guess girls find it boring and tedious to go for grocery shopping..picking out good vegetables from the bad ones is kinda difficult.

Still, I don't get what's with women and shopping!!! I've a friend who shops to cure herself of depressing thoughts!!!

Well Manish, I guess it is a woman's nature to like shopping! :D
This quote tells you about the nature of men and women-

"When women are depressed, they eat or go shopping. Men invade another country. It's a whole different way of thinking."
